The Northside Lions is a competitive travel basketball club for homeschool athletes on Indianapolis’ North side and North suburbs. We have both Girls and Boys programs from 10U through Varsity.
Homeschool Eligibility
A player is eligible to play who:
Has not already graduated from high school or attended a school as a senior.
Lives at home with a parent or legal guardian.
Participating in a non-traditional form of primary education (e.g. Home school, co-op, classical academy, etc.) such that the student would not, in association with the institution or school enrolled, have an opportunity to play competitive varsity basketball on an in-school season team.
Grandfathered Caveat: Changes made by the player’s educational institution which were not inside the player’s control will not disqualify a player who was previously eligible and played for the Lions continuously. (e.g. the school adds a basketball team)
Age Eligibility
A player's age group is determined by his/her age on August 1 of the current school year. For example, a player who is 16 on July 31 with a August 1 birthday would be considered eligible to play in the 16U age group.
Players are eligible to play up in a higher age group if desired. Age groups offered are 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U, and 18U.
Gender Eligibility
Players are only eligible to play in the gender division that the player was born, as recorded on their original birth certificate. There are no co-ed teams.
Where do we play?
Our home gym is at Castleview Church on 86th & Hague. We attend three travel tournaments each year: St. Louis, Fort Wayne, and Nationals. We're fortunate that the two other major tournaments (Crossroads Clash and Regionals) are held in Indianapolis area, so families do not have to travel to those. We also play several head-to-head matchups with other clubs in our conference and around Indiana.
Game Length
10U, 12U, 14U - 6 minute quarters with 4 minute halftime and 3 minute overtime
16U - 7 minute quarters with 4 minute halftime and 3 minute overtime
18U - 8 minute quarters with 4 minute half time and 4 minute overtime
Basketball Size
Boys 12U-18U use a standard size boys basketball
Boys 10U and all girls levels use 28.5 size basketball
Game Rules
Standard high school rules apply to most games. Some variations for younger age groups include no pressing and a running clock after a high point lead from one team.
Each year we update our handbook for the current season. You can find the handbook in the About Us menu under the current season. There you can find information about player registration fees, expectations about club logistics, and more.
